今日は、日本のお盆について紹介します。
先祖が、死後の世界から帰ってくるといわれています。
お盆は、一般的に8月13日から16日までです。
この期間は、きゅうりやなすをお供えします。
13日には、きゅうりで作った馬を用意します。
馬は速いので、「早く家に帰ってくるように」という意味があります。
先祖の霊がわかるように、火を焚きます。
迎え火といいます。
16日には、なすで作った牛を用意します。
牛は遅いので、「ゆっくり帰れるように」という意味があります。
先祖の霊を送る時も火を焚きます。
送り火といいます。
私達も、実家で家族と迎え火を焚きました。
また、この時期には、盆踊りというお祭りがあります。
浴衣を着て、みんなで円になって踊ります。
先祖が、家族と楽しい時間をすごせるようにという意味があります。
今年は、盆踊りが中止になってしまったので残念でした。
また来年を楽しみにしています。
でも、家族と一緒にご飯を食べてゆっくり過ごせたので良かったです

Hi everyone, how are you?
Today, I will introduce Obon, or the Bon Festival, in Japan.
It is said that our ancestors return from the afterlife during this period.
Obon generally runs from August 13 to August 16th.
During this period, cucumbers and eggplants are presented as offerings.
On the 13th, we prepare a “horse” made from a cucumber.
Horses are fast, so this means that we want our ancestors to return home quickly.
We light a fire to let our ancestors’ spirits know the way home.
This is called mukaebi, meaning “welcoming fire.”
On the 16th, we prepare a “cow” made from an eggplant.
Cows are slow, so this means that we want our ancestors to leave slowly.
We also light a fire when sending off the spirits of our ancestors.
This is called okuribi, or “sending fire.”
Our family also lit a mukaebi at my parents’ house.
Also, during this period, there is a festival called the Bon Festival dance.
Everyone wears yukatas and dances in a circle.
This is meant to be a fun experience where families spend time with their ancestors.
It’s too bad that the Bon Festival dances were cancelled this year, though.
I look forward to next year.
However, I am glad that I got to relax and enjoy time with my family.
